Hi there! I’m a self-described aviation nut, private pilot and Internet architect. I live and work in Munich, Germany. I love to swing dance, and am currently learning the Lindy Hop, which, coincidentally was named after something having to do with aviation. Take a guess! I’m not an Army brat, but might as well be part of the club because of how much I moved around as a kid and all the places I grew up in, including England, Germany and the US. I recently learned kids like me are Third Culture Kids, because we take elements of the two or more cultures we grow up in and develop a third culture. Not surprisingly, I find myself most at home on an airplane traveling somewhere.
My family lives in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and I have a huge extended family in Germany, with friends and acquaintances scattered all over the world. I currently work at Akamai Technologies helping companies and government organizations improve the service they give their customers through the Internet. The company has some remarkably cool technologies which I just love talking about. If you’re interested, Harald Prokop gave a presentation at Velocity ‘08 that does a great job of explaining what Akamai does. And at the 2009 Akamai Customer Conference Tom, Paul and Harald gave some great talks.
If you’ve gotten me to be quiet about cyberspace, then I’m probably talking to you about my life’s passion, aviation. On the weekends, if I’m not swimming, biking or swing dancing, then I’m usually at the airport working on becoming a flight instructor. For at least one day a year, I also volunteer as a Docent at the Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum south of Dulles Airport in Virginia.
Enjoy poking around on my site, and if you’re an out-of-touch old friend or want to learn more about flying, join me for swing dancing, or reserve a private tour of the museum with yours truly, you can reach me via email (my first name dot my last name at gmail dot com).
